Mountain Goat Climbs – Burnt Hill

The first ride of the 2006 Mountain Goat Series kicked off today with a pleasant spin up Burnt Hill. This ride starts at Macomb State Park at the Day Use Parking Lot.

We rode from the parking lot, a quick spin to get the juices flowing, and almost immediately uphill. The first section of this climb with a gradient of 9% is the best. Overall the average gradient of the whole climb is 5.5%. So you can see, the primary effort happens at the start of the climb, while the last portion you could say is quasi-recovery.

The total ride is just shy of 4 miles to the top. A proper warm-up would make things a bit nicer for us old dudes, but hey, I’m not complaining. Look at these happy faces:
