Visitor Information for the Plattsburgh Beach

June 20th, 2007 · No Comments · Adirondack Life

Greetings to our Canadian friends and everyone in the North Country. By popular demand, I present you with the information you have been searching for.

Over at the Adirondack Guide, there’s a roundup of Lake Champlain Beaches. If you want to sample our beaches on Lake Champlain, a.k.a. “the Adirondack Coast“, give the list and map a look.

Here’s the beta for the Plattsburgh beach which is purported to be the largest freshwater sand beach in the USA:

Cumberland Bay State Park
Day Use 8am – 10pm
$6 per Car - $4 after 4pm
Canadian 15%
Open till Columbus Day

Plattsburgh City Beach
Day Use 11am – 7pm
$6 per Car, $3 Motorcycle, $2 Pedestrian/bike
Canadian at Par
Town/City Residents Free
Last Day: August 19th 2007

These are really part of the same beach, one side operated by NY State and the other by the City of Plattsburgh. If I had to pick, I’d go for Cumberland Bay, only so I can use my Empire Pass. These are minutes from both downtown Plattsburgh and the Upper Cornelia commercial district.

Notice the exchange rate? Ha! The DEC wants 20% over at Ausable Point for Loonies. They were officially worth .94 cents yesterday. At par is not even good enough anymore.

Best place for lodging close to these beaches is in Plattsburgh. Almost everything is located around Exit 37 off the Northway. I know every place, in some cases too well. They’re mostly branded properties, I’d recommend using that as your first guide to quality. Nuff said. You could also camp.

I’m a real cheapskate sometimes, and I’m a web geek. Don’t waste your time searching for rates, use Kayak.
