I put together the following outline which would be my considered “bare minimum” for a comprehensive destination-marketing online program. While this may apply to a theoretical “Adirondack” program, it can easily be adjusted to work for any destination or brand. Obviously, each item is worthy of long discussion and debate. Would love to hear your opinion, and any items which I may have omitted.
The Sigüenza Tourism folks open up the annex location during the summer at El Humilladero. Really great Tapas at the Bar Alameda across the street.
Could it really be true that only a year has passed? It seems like it was all a dream. Let me tell you about it.
I once dreamed that I’d be harnessing the web for Business Intelligence and Brand Marketing. You see, in this fantasy, I was building a Mythological Brand. Much like a Priest, my Mission-in-Life would be to Spread the Word about The Brand. Mobilizing my Army of Disciples, we would march forth with Our Message. Because We Believe that it is only through Our Brand, that Self-Actualization can be achieved.

Cool painting, huh? More on that later. In case you didn’t know, I just got back from visiting Spain. Same heat, different humidity. I’m melting.
Funny how a couple weeks off seems to be harder than simply staying and working.
I mentioned a slight problem in a post the day I left. I’m almost embarrassed to say. We discovered that my son’s passport had expired. His slightly legal EU one too. Kind of an issue, especially for a control freak like me. My wife just says, “we’ll go and play dumb”. Great.
Damned if it didn’t work. The only real hassle was with the Air Canada check-in. But after consulting some little book, some manager guy told the agent to issue us boarding passes. Ha! This is after already crossing the US/Canada border to get to the airport in Montreal. Unbelievable! Getting past customs in Madrid was even easier. My wife and son went to the EU citizen line and were basically whisked through. They had to wait for us with the valid passports.
Honestly, I should have known. I once left with a passport that was expiring before I returned. Went to the embassy and had a new one in-hand withing 90 minutes. No extra charge. That was 10 years ago. We hit the embassy again first thing in the morning and had a new one on the way withing 10 days. Delivery by messenger service. That “skin-of-your-teeth” traveling.
It’s true, camping season is coming quick. Gas prices are up, that’s true, I’ve already gotten my “how will gas impact Memorial Weekend?” call. Add some pre-election bad-economy fear-mongering and you’ve got the perfect reason to enjoy some great New York State camping. ReserveAmerica has just announced their “2008 Top 100 Family Campgrounds” and some of our Adirondack jewels have made the list.
We’ve got a lot of campgrounds around here, so maybe it’s a little in our favor, but it is a nationwide “competition”. Last year’s list included Point Comfort Campground – Piseco, Whetstone Gulf State Park – Lowville, and Lake Eaton – Long Lake. I’m counting six campgrounds in our area making 2008’s list, plus two more in other categories. Read the rest of this entry »
