A letter to Foxman – Binghamton Instead?

January 20th, 2007 · No Comments · Adirondack Life

Binghamton blogger bingoblab has a thought provoking post regarding the proposed Adirondack Club and Resort.

In case you have not noticed, the history of the Adirondacks and state politics will both combine into failure for your plans. There is just too much opposition. Do you know your plans are akin to what Walt Disney did to Orlando? Except Orlando was not the vacation homeland for generations of Rockefellers and other wealthy New Yorkers. Disneyworld would have never been started in the Adirondacks and you won’t get there either.

Very perceptive.

Sounds like Sushi to me – Aquarium of the Adirondacks

Aquarium of the Adirondacks’ Basic Plans To Be Unveiled!

Adirondack SushiWhoo hoo! I’ve just gotten back from L.A. where I visited the Aquarium of the Pacific. Eh, it was OK. After Disney, I guess I had enough of fake stuff. Looking at fish in a tank is qualifies as fake to me. Guess what, right in the heart of the Adirondacks, after driving past a zillion lakes, ponds, streams, mountains, trees, and rocks, you can visit the W!ld Center. It’s not really that “wild”, but it is kind of in the center. For another “fake, but real” adventure, you can swirl around in our own Great Escape Lodge where “365 Days of Summer” is their motto.

Now get your chopsticks ready. If some would have their way, we’ll be feasting our eyes on “…a $40-million, 60,000-square-foot project that could include a tank of native Lake George species, a coral reef exhibit and a shark tank”. Possibly in Queensbury! Yeah!

This story is just breaking and deserves a special mention.

Police identify woodsman

Man tells police he has lived in woods for past 20 years

Modern Adirondack Hobo - Alan G ComoBuried in the thick woods of northern Warren County, 2 miles from the nearest road, was a testament to human adaptability.

A tarp-covered lean-to loaded with clothing, sleeping bags and provisions — items believed to have been stolen from seasonal homes around the Brant Lake region — was his residence, at least for the last several months.

The man police believe endured the elements of the Adirondacks in a pine-branch shelter was Alan G. Como, 56, whose last known address was in Massachusetts, police said. He told police he’d lived in the woods for the past 20 years.
