Eagle Bay Makes Top 50 List

Actually, the list of 50 All-Star Family Camps. Not exactly sure what the eligibility criteria for consideration might be, but at a minimum they are all ACA accredited campgrounds. This mostly means that they have been vetted on “26 health and safety standards and are usually handicapped-accessible”. None on the list are cheap, so any third-party endorsement really helps take some of the risk out of the equation. In 2002, Governor George Pataki put forth his goal of preserving over 1 million new acres of open space over the next decade. Early this year, he made a significant step toward that goal by announcing the purchase of over 100,000 acres of land located in the northern region of Franklin and Clinton Counties. [Read more →]

Wilmington Notch Roadwork Ahead

Update: July 2006 – Roadwork is complete. Still dangerous, but now the wall is bulletproof. Watch out for cyclists!!

DOT AWARDS CONTRACT FOR ROUTE 73 AND 86 UPGRADE

The New York State Department of Transportation after years of temporary solutions, much research, and public comment has announced the commencement of repairs this Spring along Routes 73 and 86 in Essex County. Luck Brothers of Plattsburgh, NY has been awarded the contract – Yeah for them! Construction along these two routes will significantly impact access to the Lake Placid – High Peaks region of the Adirondacks from points East, specifically the Northway.
