Wilmington Celebrates 8th Annual Festival of Colors on September 10

WILMINGTON, NEW YORK – The Whiteface Region Business and Tourism Center (WFRBTC), Town of Wilmington and local sponsors are pleased to host the 8th Annual Festival of the Colors on Saturday, September 10, from 10:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m. on Springfield Road in Wilmington.

Festival of the ColorsThe Festival will feature live entertainment by Organized Chaos, Pipsqueak the Clown and Santa’s Workshop, and will include horse rides, free kids activities and the famous Pie Baking Contest! In addition, numerous vendors will display a variety of products, from arts and crafts, to fresh produce and baked goods, to unique treasures.

“There are few more spectacular places to be than the Whiteface Region of the Adirondacks in fall,” said Susan Hockert, WFRBTC president. “The mountains become an evergreen canvas painted with bursts of vibrant yellow, red and orange – well worth celebrating!”

This popular annual event is free and open to the public, and will be held at the tee-ball field on Springfield Road in Wilmington, with a beautiful backdrop of Whiteface Mountain.

Hundreds of Cyclists to Converge On the Adirondacks

NORTH CREEK, NY – Hundreds of bicyclists are expected to converge on the Adirondacks on Sunday, Aug. 14, for the Adirondack Mountain Club’s ididaride! Adirondack Bike Tour.

2011 IdidarideNow in its sixth year, ididaride! is a 75-mile road tour through some of the Northeast’s most spectacular scenery. Riders will depart at 8:30 a.m. from the Ski Bowl Park Pavilion in North Creek (Warren County) and cycle through the central Adirondacks, passing through Bakers Mills, Wells, Speculator, Sabael, Indian Lake and North River before arriving back at North Creek. There is also a 20-mile ride. A shuttle will take those riders and their bicycles to Indian Lake, and they’ll cycle back to North Creek.

The Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) has sponsored ididaride! since 2008, and it is becoming one of the most popular cycling tours in the Northeast. Last year, more than 300 people participated in the ride and even more are expected in 2011.

“This event gets more popular each year, with cyclists of all ages coming from as far away as California,” said Deb Zack, ADK’s director of membership and development. “If you love the Adirondacks, if you love to cycle, if you love a challenge, you’ll want to do the ride.”

After the ride, participants will enjoy an Apres-Ride Party with food, drink, music and prizes at the Ski Bowl Park Pavilion. Many North Creek merchants are offering great discounts on wining and dining on Main Street for all ididariders as well.

Proceeds from ididaride! Adirondack Bike Tour will help support ADK’s conservation and education programs. Lake Placid Sinfonietta to Perform at the Wild Center

Wild Center LogoTUPPER LAKE, NY – The Wild Center is proud to present “Music in the Mountains” on Thursday, July 28th at 7:30pm as the Lake Placid Sinfonietta performs in the Center’s Big Wolf Great Hall. This is the tenth year the Lake Placid Sinfonietta will travel to Tupper Lake to share their wonderful music.

The Lake Placid Sinfonietta will perform works including excerpts from Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Gabriel’s Oboe from the Mission by Morricone with oboe soloist Caroline Park, Strauss’s Tale from the Vienna Woods, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and selections from the Sound of Music by Rodgers and Hammerstein. (Program subject to change.)

Lake Placid SinfoniettaBegin the evening with a pre-concert, “summer picnic” buffet in The Wild Center’s Esplanade Tent on Greenleaf Pond. Baked and barbeque chicken will be served with roasted potatoes, a seasonal vegetable, green salad, rolls and a touch of chocolate for dessert. Iced Tea will be served. The cost of dinner, $21.60 per person, is in addition to the concert fee. Reservations for the dinner are required by July 21st.

“This is one of my favorite events of the year. The beautiful setting of the Big Wolf Great Hall overlooking Greenleaf Pond and the superb acoustics of the space make this concert truly special,” says Executive Director, Stephanie Ratcliffe. “It’s an honor to bring this event to our community.”

Members may purchase tickets for $17. Children 14 and under are free. Refreshments will be served during intermission.
