I think it was a little higher late yesterday, but not much.
We have our city sewage treatment plant right at the mouth of the river (!). They are worried that the ice will rip away the pipes that go under the bridge. Yikes!
The Press-Republican front page coverage of this produced some snarky comments down at the coffeehouse. Everyone agreed that despite what the headline claimed, the ice jam wasn’t a “rare” event. And for this jam to endanger the city,
Lake Champlain would have to rise many feet, forcing the ice into downtown.
There’s news and then there’s “news.” News reports the facts. “News” distorts the situation to create startling headlines.
