Mayor Stewart Gets Product Placement

Update: Today the Mayor is up for appointment as the new NYS Commissioner of Corrections. Frankly, I’m sorry to see him go, but don’t blame him one bit. Good Luck Mayor Stewart!

Is this cool or what? Mayor Dan Stewart on one of his many ‘trips’, managed to get the City of Plattsburgh written in to Law and Order: SVU. I don’t care what the local Economic and Community Development Office is doing, or the Chamber for that matter. Both have failed in promoting and developing Plattsburgh’s many tourism opportunities. By getting Plattsburgh into the season premiere of this most popular show, Mayor Stewart may have inadvertently trumped any previous effort at getting Plattsburgh on the map and generating brand recognition.

Personalize Your Customer’s Experience

Seth G. has pointed out the wall that defines the old way of customer interaction. A recent experience I had in customer service perfectly illustrated this point. When it comes to selling a product, competitive advantage usually is found in price, quality, or product differentiation. I’ve always been a fan of supporting local businesses, especially if the product or service is generic. In fact, I would even pay a higher price point and accept marginally lesser goods or services to that end. The only requirement is excellent customer service. Being local is a competitive advantage unavailable to your typical large corporate business and one that should be leveraged. In one short month, I went from cheerleader to opponent. How do you do that? Easy, patronize your customer, don’t deliver or follow through on your word, and blame your service failure on others.

Lone Blogger Recruits Army in Fight Against State

Last week I mentioned that Lance Dutson is being sued by Warren Kramer Paino Advertising for his revealing analysis of the Maine Office of Tourism‘s advertising practices. Well, what started as a lone blogger ruminating about Google Adwords, has now become a full-fledged internet battle between the blogosphere and Big Business/Govt. Now that the antique media has gotten hold of the story, we are about to see some really exciting and interesting developments.
