DEC Commissioner Grannis Fired

October 22nd, 2010 · 4 Comments · News

Alexander "Pete" Grannis - Commissioner NYS DECOh Wow. Poststar and ADE are reporting this morning that DEC Commissioner Pete Grannis was fired yesterday for “poor performance and insubordination”.  Likely a result of “The Memo” which recently appeared that criticized the potential department cuts proposed by the Paterson Administration.

As a Spitzer appointee, it’s actually amazing that Grannis lasted this long. Now with DEC leaderless, except for the remaining career-staff, this department will be in limbo until a new Governor and his minions are “elected”. On the plus-side, he can now speak freely.

After seeing that travesty of a “debate”, are we really left with one choice? Will New York ever get out of this Death-spiral?

Playing Chicken with Parks

May 28th, 2010 · 3 Comments · News

We have big “Parks” and little “parks”. In case you haven’t heard, New York State is having a bit of a fiscal issue. Every organization with a stake in state budget negotiations is doing the same with mixed results. You could say that I’m one of those “mixed results”. And like most things in life, there are two sides of the coin.

Update: Mountain Visions recognizes this game.
Legislature Successfully Defends Paterson’s Assualt On EPF

Paterson tossed a grenade into the assembly and senate chambers and waited for someone to dive on it. Of course there probably isn’t one upstanding human being in the legislature, so they did the only thing they could, they tossed the EPF on it to save themselves.

DEC to Close Forest Roads

Forest Preserve - State LandToo lazy and slightly shocked to copy, paste and spiff-up the press release. Brian already posted most of the details over at The In Box.

Funny thing, I’m not sure this is really a bad thing. No motorized access to the Moose River Plains? Doesn’t really bum me out too much.
