Thanks for visiting and the Hevesi update; it’s been changed!
I have two sites: Roads Scholars – which is primarily for the parents to track the progress of the trip, and, The Educational Tour Marm, which is about history and tour sites on the East Coast. You’re all invited to tag along starting on April 14th.
I’m extremely interested in developing more itineraries in New york State. Quite frankly, I was amazed that I was able to convince a California middle school to forgo Washington, DC etc. amd travel through NYS for their curriculum-based trip. (It was primarily self-serving as I had not toured in the state for nearly ten years!)
Weather and Easter break were the two difficulties; there was so much I couldn’t include because sites were closed i.e. Maid of the Mist and the Erie Canal. The good people who run Harriet Tubman’s House will not open on Sunday, William Seward’s home was too small for the group to tour, and we had no time to get to lake Placid to See John Brown’s home. But I think I did OK – and the New York State folks have reallly gone the extra mile. The hospitality and generosity of NYS have been overwhelming. A few regoinal I Love NY representatives will be meeting us along the way.
I have a couple of California private schools that like to do outdoors adventures and I was thinking about the Appalachian Trail and the Adirondacks. Any ideas?
"...cuts in major environmental initiatives and staff losses at state regulatory agencies are threatening the Adirondack Park's natural resources and tourism."
"It got a late start. The ice hasn't been thick enough to support ice shanties. It's too bad, because ice fishing was a great economic boon to the community."
"The Saranac Lake chamber should take the lead in developing business services and relinquish control of visitor services. The dollars currently collected to support the visitor service should, in turn, go to their original intention."
"Far too many of our young urban men in New York spend often-brief sojourns in rural prisons that stigmatize them for the rest of their lives, exposing them to legal discrimination and relegating them to a lower class existence."
