Tuesday Storm – What a Day

I was so distracted by the sudden reduction in heat yesterday. Tuesday’s dual thunderstorms were pretty epic.

Big Cloud

That picture was just before the after-lunch storm looking North from “the center”. There were huge clouds developing and this one was just about to hit us. It was about 90 degrees when I took the photo. 45 minutes later after a period of wind and rain, the temperature dropped to 70. Seems both kids were stuck in the gym due to a tornado warning. Ha ha.

Rainbow Over Plattsburgh

The evening storm was twice as violent with 3x’s the rain. My street was briefly a swiftly flowing river. But almost immediately it was over and we were treated to this big rainbow over Plattsburgh. This pic is for Wendy.

DMO “X” on WordPress

OK, I’m kinda sorta excited in a ho-hum “land n’ leave” sort of way. Looks like my pals at the XXXXXXXX have decided to take off their Blogger/Blogspot training-wheels and get on a machine with real CMS power. Excellent move, but….

  • Why announce if you’re not ready? The default Meta and Blogroll items on the sidebar? Gone.
  • The About page. Gads, just delete it or hide it. Deleted.

  • Something about that “Search” bar continues to scream Splog!
  • Pretty Permalinks please.
  • 2.3.3 lacks tagging.
  • Question: Who’s doing this? In-house? Agency? The photographer guy?
  • Somebody probably told them that they were overloading the meta tags before, now there are none.
  • Whoever cares about SEO should call me.

One-way Traffic is the Way to Go

Update: Council opts to keep traffic two-way

Councilors voted 5 to 1 against the change, citing the impact it would have on the surrounding area and the potential to increase hazards rather than decrease them.

“I don’t think we’ve thought through the risks clearly enough to warrant a change,” Councilor Amy Valentine (D-Ward 5) said.

Councilor Timothy Carpenter (D-Ward 1) said changing the traffic would actually force more cars to travel in front of the Oval residences.

Councilor Chris Jackson (D-Ward 6), who lives on Oak Street, a one-way street, said people tend to speed more on one-way streets.

Councilor George Rabideau (R-Ward 3) said the existing bike path already serves as a recreation area for non-motorized traffic.

Councilor Amy Valentine (D-Ward 5) said she was concerned about how much it would cost to convert the road and how it would be enforced.

Councilor Timothy Carpenter (D-Ward 1) wanted to know if emergency vehicles would be hampered by one-way traffic.

Councilor and Mayor Pro Tem James Calnon (I-Ward 4), who was chairing Thursday’s meeting in the absence of Mayor Donald Kasprzak, who was out of town, noted that few accidents occur on the oval. Link

Oh well, it was worth the effort and the fight will continue.
